(Rome, New York) - On December 7, 2007, President George W. Bush declared that Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, to be a federal holiday in addition to Christmas Day. In response, Fort Stanwix National Monument announces a change in its hours of operation.
On Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, the Marinus Willett Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to provide visitor services to local residents and our out of town guests; the fort will be closed the entire day. All other park offices will be closed.
The entire park will be closed Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, as previously scheduled.
The park and all offices will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, for regular business hours. The Marinus Willett Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; ranger guided tours of the fort will be provided periodically throughout the day if weather and safe walking conditions permit.
"We wish everyone a happy, healthy and peaceful Holiday Season," stated Superintendent Debbie Conway. "We request that everyone as part of their holiday celebrations take the time to reflect upon and give thanks to the men and women in our armed forces and emergency services that are making sacrifices to ensure we are safe and enjoy the Season's blessings."
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Days. Admission to the Marinus Willett Center and Fort are free. Visitors are encouraged to start their experience at the Marinus Willett Center at the intersection of West Dominick and James Streets. A park ranger can assist you in planning your visit.
