At about 4:40 p.m., Friday, Feb. 29, an emergency call came into the National Park Service (NPS) Dispatch Center reporting a boating accident near the Swallow Cove area of Lake Mead. NPS Rangers on vessels arrived in the area the victim was last seen at about 5:20 p.m.
Witnesses boating on a vessel reported to Rangers that the victim’s boat came into contact with the shoreline of a cove and it started sinking. The witnesses came back to the area to try to offer aid to the victim but the boat and the victim were under water and could not be located. NPS Rangers tried to find the victim but suspended the search at about 7 p.m.
NPS Rangers, NPS Boating Volunteers, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search & Rescue (Metro) personnel resumed the search on Saturday, March 1. Metro divers located the victim in the vicinity of the sunken vessel at about 10:46 a.m. The victim has been identified as Randy S. Jordan of Las Vegas. He was 60 years old. He was alone on the vessel.
The accident is still under investigation by NPS Rangers and the Clark County Coroner will determine the exact cause of death. This is all we know at this time.
At about 10:20 a.m., Saturday, March 1, an emergency call was relayed into the NPS Dispatch Center reporting a motorcycle crash on the Callville Bay access road. At about, 10:35 a.m. NPS Rangers and an NPS Volunteer were at the scene of the crash. The victim and his motorcycle were in a ditch area just off the road. NPS Rangers attempted life-saving measures and called in Mercy Air to assist. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The 29-year-old victim was Ted Everidge, a Staff Sergeant stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. He had been riding his motorcycle with a male friend who was on a different motorcycle. The friend did not crash and was the one who called for help.
The accident is under investigation by NPS Rangers and Nevada Department of Public Safety accident investigators. The Clark County Coroner will determine the exact cause of death.
