Current Situation: The fire is located approximately three miles north of the Utah temporary visitor’s center on the Dinosaur National Monument. Fire growth was minimal yesterday. Firefighters observed very little activity on the North and South. The fire is mainly burning in Ponderosa Pine on the east side, with some grass and juniper on the west side. The forecast calls for a weather system with the potential for cooler temperatures, high winds, and rainfall to move into the area late Saturday or Sunday.
Today’s Objectives: Firefighters will work on the north and west flanks of the fire to stop movement to the north and west. The fire is burning entirely within the Dinosaur National Monument boundaries. Minimum impact management techniques are being used to contain and confine the fire within the boundaries of the Monument.
Area Closures: None
Evacuations: There are no evacuation orders at this time.
Remarks: The fire may produce increased smoke during the heat of the day and may reduce visibility along the Island Park Road leading to Rainbow Park.
