LAS VEGAS - This Saturday, at least 300 volunteers will converge at Lake Mead National Recreation Area as part of the National Parks America Tour. The event will begin at 8 a.m. at the Boulder Beach campground.
The Tour is sponsored by Unilever, in cooperation with Wal-Mart Good Works, the National Park Foundation and Take Pride in America. It is designed to engage Unilever employees and citizens of all ages in volunteer “service-to-the-land" projects to help protect and preserve America’s National Parks.
“Volunteers play such an important role in keeping Lake Mead beautiful," said Nancy Bernard, Volunteer Coordinator for Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
According to Bernard, volunteers have contributed over 51,000 hours this year to help with park maintenance. That’s out of a total of 118,805 hours contributed in all areas of park operations.
Recently a litter removal project by employees of Zappos.com and Ocean Minded, Inc. ended with nine cubic yards of trash, 250 pounds of broken glass, 58 bags of recycling collected from 14-acres of park land.
“This is a great opportunity to help the environment and meet people from the community," said Bernard. She encourages those who want to participate in this Saturday’s event to pre-register by calling her at (702) 293-8714.
