Morris Marina Ferry Contract Not Continued

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 4, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

Harkers Island, NC - The National Park Service (NPS) has failed to reach agreement with Morris Marina Ferry and Kabin Kamps, Inc. for continuation of services under their contract to operate both the vehicle ferry to, and the cabin lodging at Long Point on North Core Banks.

In order to ensure continued services for the public and the maintenance of the cabins, Cape Lookout National Seashore has assumed operation of the cabin lodging at Long Point. In addition, the seashore staff has arranged with the Morris Marina Company to continue operation of the vehicle and passenger ferry services from Atlantic to Long Point, under a separate authorization.

“The NPS is pleased to report that ferry service and cabin rentals will not be interrupted in 2009," stated Cape Lookout National Seashore Superintendent, Russel J. Wilson, “We will work with the Morris Marina staff to make this transition as seamless as possible for visitors."

* Reservations for ferry service to Long Point with the Morris Marina Company will not change; visitors should call the Morris Marina Company at 252-225-4261 for ferry reservations.

* Reservations for cabin rentals at Long Point will now be made through the NPS; visitors should call the NPS at 252-732-4424 for cabin reservations.

The NPS will start accepting new Long Point cabin reservations on March 9, 2009 and the Long Point Cabin Area will open for the season on March 30, 2009.

IMPORTANT NOTE

For the 2009 season, the NPS will honor previous cabin reservations made through the Morris Marina Company, if confirmed with the NPS at the above number before May 1, 2009.

Cape Lookout National Seashore also operates the cabin lodging at Great Island area on South Core Banks.
