Mississippi Highway 6 Project Crossing the Natchez Trace Parkway Begins

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 18, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

On March 2, 2009, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) began construction of the Mississippi Highway 6 crossing of the Natchez Trace Parkway. Hill Brothers Construction Company is the prime contractor and construction is expected to be completed near the end of 2011. When completed, this four-lane highway will pass under the Parkway at approximately MP 256.7.

Construction on the Parkway will extend from about MP 256 to 258. Shortly, a detour will be constructed parallel to the existing Parkway so that traffic flow can be maintained with minimal impact. However, the traffic flow on the intersections at Estes Road and on Bissell Road will be impacted to a much greater extent.

Further information on this project may be obtained by contacting MDOT’s Tupelo office at (662) 842-1122.
