NELSON, Nev. - The body of a 19-year-old Las Vegas man has been recovered from Lake Mohave after he drowned near Fire Mountain Cove. Divers from Las Vegas Metro Police recovered the body from about 14-feet of water at 6:20 p.m.
The National Park Service received a transferred 911 call from Bullhead City at 1:23 p.m. reporting a drowning.
The man had been swimming out to a point of land with five friends. When the five swam back to shore they noticed that he was missing.
Witnesses in the cove saw the man lag behind the group and go underwater. Friends and bystanders began searching the area. When he wasn’t located they called 911, about 20 minutes after he went missing.
National Park Service rangers and Arizona game wardens responded. Rangers located the body about 35-feet from shore in 14-feet of water.
“Incidents such as this should remind us that you have to know your limits before you go into the water," said Andrew Muñoz, spokesman for Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
He wasn’t wearing a life jacket.
