In response to the NOAA Weather Service Tsunami advisory issued after the earthquake off the Chilean coast, Bay Area National Parks are issuing the following advice:
NPS is advising visitors to stay off of beaches between 12 noon and 4 pm in Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Point Reyes National Seashore due to increased wave size. Tsunami advisories mean that a tsunami capable of creating strong currents or waves is expected.
National Park Beaches include the following: Fort Funston Beach, Ocean Beach, China Beach, Baker Beach, Fort Point, Crissy Field, Rodeo Beach, Horseshoe Cove at Fort Baker, Tennessee Valley Beach, Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, Limantour Beach and Drakes Beach.
NPS is not closing beaches at this time, but continues to monitor the situation.
