NATIONAL PARK SERVICE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS MULE OPERATIONS AND STOCK USE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

WHAT: The National Park Service (NPS) will host three public meetings to discuss the recently released environmental assessment (EA) for Mule Operations and Stock Use in Grand Canyon National Park. Meetings will be held in Grand Canyon, AZ, Kanab UT and Flagstaff, AZ.

WHO: The NPS invites public input/comment on the EA. Anyone interested in learning more about the proposed actions and providing input/comment is encouraged to attend.

March 22, 2010 Grand Canyon, AZ, South Rim, Community Building

March 24, 2010 Kanab, UT, Holiday Inn Express,217 South 100 East

March 25, 2010 Flagstaff, AZ, Little America Hotel, 2515 E. Butler Ave.

Meetings will be in an open house format with a brief introduction at the beginning of each meeting provided by park staff. The public is invited to stop by at any time between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to talk with members of the park staff.

WHY: The NPS is committed to seeking public input/comment in order to reaffirm previously identified agency and public issues, and to identify any new issues and concerns on stock use in Grand Canyon National Park. The information gathered at the meetings and comments received will be carefully considered before a decision is made regarding implementation of a Stock Use Plan.
