National parks offer free entrance April 16-24
LAS VEGAS - After a cold, wet winter it’s time to get outside again. Lake Mead National Recreation Area will be celebrating National Park Week, April 16-24, with free entry, hikes and events for the whole family.
"National parks have always been great places to go on vacation, have fun, and learn something, but for millions of Americans national parks are also a daily part of a healthy lifestyle," National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said. "If you've never thought of your national parks that way, we'd like to invite you to come out to see how parks can help you meet your fitness goals. Getting outside and moving is the first step."
With hiking trails, beaches, and campgrounds, Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers residents of Southern Nevada, Arizona, Southern California, and Utah a great place to escape life’s stresses within a reasonable driving distance.
National Park Week Events at Lake Mead National Recreation Area:
Mon., Apr. 18, 9 a.m. - Historic Railroad Trail Hike
Mon., Apr. 18, 10 a.m. - White Owl Canyon Hike
Tues., Apr. 19, 9 a.m. - Bluffs Trail Hike
Tues., Apr. 19, 10 a.m. - Spooky Canyon Hike
Weds., Apr. 20, 9 a.m. - Wetlands Trail Hike
Weds., Apr. 20, 10 a.m. - Redstone Discovery Trail Hike
Sat., Apr 23, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. - Junior Ranger Day Event at the Boulder Beach Picnic Area. Meet park rangers, Mojave Max and Smoky Bear; touch reptiles, learn about local archeology, explore the park and earn a Jr. Park Ranger badge.
Park concessionaires will be offering specials throughout the week. Callville Bay Marina is offering a 25 percent stay-cation discount on deck cruisers and powerboat rentals for locals (reservations required, call (702)565-4813). The Western National Park Association will be offering a 15 percent discount throughout its bookstore located in downtown Boulder City, Nev.
