Farview Curve Overlook Area on Trail Ridge Road To Temporarily Close

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 22, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Farview Curve Overlook Parking Area located on Trail Ridge Road on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park will close Monday morning, July 25, at 7:00 a.m. Farview Curve (10,120 feet) is 14.1 miles north of the Kawuneeche Visitor Center. Due to heavy snow loads this year the historic rock wall has failed at Farview Curve. This spring, large cracks were observed and the wall has developed a significant tilt.

On July 25, erosion control will begin around the wall, followed by the demolition of the existing wall footings, sidewalk and adjacent asphalt. The sub-excavation and backfill operations should take roughly a week. Resetting the stone masonry wall is anticipated to take 3 weeks. The work schedule will be from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday but closures will be in place during weekends as well. As the work progresses, it may be possible to reopen a section of the parking area at Farview Curve. One way traffic will be required on the lower end of the wall section for a few days during the demolition and reconstruction of the wall foundation.
