LAS VEGAS - Lake Mead National Recreation Area will be joining with other federal land areas across the United States in celebrating National Public Lands Day (NPLD) with free entry into the park on Saturday, Sept. 24.
This year the park is hosting a volunteer clean-up at Government Wash to help us cleanup this popular summer getaway area. The first 100 participants will receive a free NPLD T-shirt and a coupon good for a free return visit to any participating federal land area (one coupon per family). Coupons are available while supplies last. Also in honor of National Public Lands Day, Western National Parks Association Bookstore will offer a 15% discount on all bookstore items, such as books, postcards, T-shirts and/or other gifts. The bookstore is located at 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City at the park's temporary visitor center location in park headquarters.
National Public Lands Day began in 1994 to encourage caring for our nation's shared lands. Today, it is the largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance publicly held lands for the greater enjoyment and enrichment of all who visit.
The next fee-free days in 2011 will be Veteran's Day weekend Nov. 11-13. Fee-free day only applies to entrance fees and does not affect fees for camping, lake-use or use of concessions.
