Rangers Investigate Report of Fatality on North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon, Ariz. - On Monday, Oct. 3, at approximately 8:43 a.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a visitor report of a possible fatality at the Cape Royal Trailhead located on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders found the body of a white male, approximately 70 years of age, lying next to a vehicle. Rangers conducted their initial investigations then transported the body to the South Rim helibase via helicopter where it will be met by the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
