A red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service for the North Bay Hills and the East Bay Hills this afternoon has prompted National Park Service officials to declare extreme fire danger for Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate NRA sites in Marin County for tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011. Offshore winds with very low relative humidity will increase the chance of a wildfire.
Public restrictions in effect on Wednesday within Point Reyes National Seashore boundaries are:
1. All wood or charcoal fires will be banned including grills, although self-contained gas stoves will be permitted at designated campgrounds and picnic areas;
2. all previously issued fire permits will become null and void;
3. Mt. Vision Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic; and
4. smoking will be prohibited on all park trails and backcountry areas.
Public restrictions that will be in effect on Wednesday at GGNRA sites in Marin County, including the Marin Headlands and Muir Woods National Monument are:
1. All fires, including campfires at Kirby Cove, beach fires at Muir beach, cooking fires and charcoal grills, are prohibited except for self-contained, portable gas stoves, which are allowed only in designated campground and picnic areas; and
2. smoking is prohibited in all areas of Muir Woods National Monument.
