To commemorate UNESCO's World Poetry Day, visitors will encounter Everglades-inspired poetry throughout Everglades National Park on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. Forty-one brightly-colored banners, capturing the voices of the Everglades through the words and rhythms of Artist-in-Residence-in-Everglades (AIRIE) poets, will be displayed on trails and at visitor centers. World Poetry Day is an invitation to reflect on the power of language and support linguistic diversity through poetic expression.
"In a park known for its spectacular and diverse wildlife, the art and voices of AIRIE artists reveal other unique, and oftentimes missed, dimensions of this special place," said Dan Kimball, Superintendent of Everglades National Park. The poetry will share the symphony of the Everglades through the words of AIRIE poets and provide residents and visitors the opportunity to better enjoy and understand the Everglades.
