WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD. - The National Park Service, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, is conducting a 30-day public review of the Sharpsburg Water Intake UpgradeEnvironmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect, March 2012.
Washington County, Maryland has requested permission to replace a six inch diameter raw water line between the county's Potomac River Intake Structure, located at Mile 74 on the C&O Canal, and the Sharpsburg Water Treatment Plant. The existing intake, which supplies water for the town of Sharpsburg, MD, is reaching the end of its lifespan.
The County is requesting permission to replace the existing pipe with two six inch lines and replace the existing underground communication infrastructure.The proposed work would be within the existing easement corridor for the water line.The Environmental Assessment presents information on projected impacts to park resources from the proposed project.
In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Park Service invites public comment regarding this project. Comments will be accepted from March 21, 2012 through April 19, 2012 and will be used to evaluate this project.
