Everglades National Park is pleased to invite the community to visit our Artist in Residence, Mary Keithan, at the Anhinga Trail on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Mary Keithan will be on site from 10:00a-12:00p and will provide photographic expertise and suggestions for photographing nature.
"Using my camera in the Everglades is quite a challenge," says Mary Keithan. "To capture the fleeting moments of Nature, such as birds on the wing, I use a DSLR camera." Mary Keithan holds a Masters of Fine Arts from Hunter College, New York City and Penn State.
"My eye is trained to recognize the more subtle pastels to vibrant colors, a similar experience when compared to using black and white where I captured a full tonal range - white to black. It is a matter of judgment to use the proper equipment and process to achieve the desired results." Mary Keithan encourages all amateur photographers and professionals alike to join her at the Anhinga Trail for a mini camera class when capturing nature behind a lens.

Visitors coming from the Miami area and northern destinations should take the Florida Turnpike (Route 821) south until it ends merging with U.S.1 at Florida City. Turn right at the first traffic light onto Palm Drive (State Road 9336/SW 344th St.) and follow the signs to the park.
Visitors driving north from the Florida Keys should turn left on Palm Drive in Florida City and follow the signs to the park.
The Anhinga Trail is located at the Royal Palm Visitor Center. Drive past the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center and in ¼ mile is the park entrance station. Proceed to drive 2-miles down the road to the Royal Palm turnoff. Take a left and drive to the Royal Palm parking lot.
