Sweet Happiness: Wedding Foods in India with Krina Patel

Lowell, MA-Recalling the weddings back in India, artist and educator Krina Patel talks about the sumptuous food that is central to Hindu weddings in India. Lord Ganesha, the harbinger of all things good and sweet, presides over each of these weddings. Krina, who started 'Stir a Memory,' a food and art project, will discuss Indian wedding foods, specific ingredients that are used, and related art rituals. She will have samples of a typical wedding food item to taste.

After showing clips of celebrations from a few Bollywood movies, we will screen Monsoon Wedding, the 2001 feature film directed by Mira Nair.A stressed father, a bride-to-be with a secret, a smitten event planner, and relatives from around the world create much ado about the preparations for an arranged marriage in India.

The free program will take place at the Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center, 246 Market Street, Lowell, Massachusetts, at 7:30pm on Friday, May 4, 2012.
