NWS Meteorologist Rhett Milne to Present About the November Forest Blowdown Event

Devils Postpile National Monument and the Inyo National Forest are pleased to host National Weather Service meteorologist Rhett Milne for a presentation on June 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mammoth Welcome Center Auditorium. The presentation will cover Nov. 30, 2011 forest blowdown event that affected large sections of the San Joaquin River Watershed from Tuolumne Meadows to Mt. Whitney and knocked down thousands of trees in the area.

The presentation will last about an hour and will look at the science of predicting those types of wind events, what happened from a meteorological perspective, and why this storm was so unusual in this part of the Sierra. It will be followed by a short question and answer session.
