HONOLULU - World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument is pleased to announce the Summer 2012 Teacher Institute: World War II: How it Transformed America, Hawai'i, and the Pacific. Hosted in partnership with Pacific Historic Parks, the Hawai'i Council for Humanities, the University of Hawai'i Center for Oral History, and the Grindstone Foundation, the institute will be held July 16-20, 2012 at Tokai University and various WWII historic sites on O'ahu. Hawaii high school teachers interested in participating may submit applications online via www.pacifichistoricparks.org through June 29.
"We are proud to provide this professional development opportunity for high school teachers in the Pacific," says Paul DePrey, superintendent of WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument. "This week-long institute provides Hawai'i teachers not only with opportunities to delve deeper into the history of World War II in the Pacific, but also with tangible means to teach that history via inquiry-based curricula in their classrooms."
The institute is free and open to all high school public and private school teachers in Hawai'i, with travel support and accommodations provided for neighbor island teachers. Meals, including breakfast, lunch, and a dinner reception, parking, and historic site tours are provided free to all participants.
