One Week Temporary Closure of Big Island Horse Trails Postponed

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 13, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

The National Park Service is in the process of plugging 14 orphaned wells in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area through a cooperative agreement with Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Water Pollution Control. On July 3, 2012, Big South Fork NRRA announced the closure of certain trails in the area of Big Island to protect visitors and well plugging workers. Recent weather conditions have caused a delay in these operations. The park is postponing the trail closures until further notice. For further information, or if you have any questions about temporary trail closures related to the well plugging activities, please contact Todd Knoedler at (423) 569-2404, ext. 237
