Women's Rights NHP to Host "Votes for Women History Trail Route" Informational Meeting

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 22, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

On Tuesday, July 24th, an informational meeting will be held at Women's Rights National Historical Park between 6:30 - 8:30PM to communicate what the National Park Service is doing to lay the foundation for the "Votes for Women History Trail Route." All are welcome to attend.

The 2009 Park Omnibus Bill authorized Women's Rights National Historical Park to administer a Votes for Women History Trail Route that would link properties in the New York State that are historically and thematically associated with the struggle for women's suffrage in the United States.

Although Women's Rights NHP was authorized to develop and administer this vehicular route, no funds had been appropriated to date for this purpose. The National Park Service is pleased to announce that funds have recently been provided through the National Park Service's Washington office to begin the process of formally establishing the trail by defining the criteria for participation and a selection process by which trail sites would be selected.

The National Park Service and Women's Rights National Historical Park are committed to making this planning process as inclusive as possible and is inviting the public to an introductory meeting with the regional planning team on July 24th at the park's Visitor Center in Seneca Falls, NY. The regional planning team will be taking the lead in the development of the criteria and selection process. At the meeting the park will introduce the team members, describe the process, and answer any questions that you may have. Light refreshments will be served through the generosity of Friends of Women's Rights National Historical Park.

The park will also be holding a public meeting to seek public comments and suggestions on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 in Seneca Falls regarding the Votes for Women History Trail Route. All are invited to attend this meeting and share their ideas. More information about the time and location of the August public meeting will be made available as soon as it is available.
