We're Turning 96!
LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA CELEBRATES 96TH BIRTHDAY OF THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
Las Vegas: On Saturday Aug. 25, Lake Mead National Recreation Area will celebrate the 96th birthday of the National Park Service by having a birthday cake in the park's temporary visitor center at park headquarters located at 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City. Park staff will also present two evening talks on the history and diversity of the national park system. One program begins at 7:00 PM at the Boulder Beach Campground Amphitheater, and the other begins at 8:00 PM at the Katherine Landing Amphitheater in Bullhead City. In honor of our 96th birthday Western National Parks Association Bookstore will offer a 15% discount on all bookstore items, such as books, postcards, T-shirts and other gifts. The bookstore is located in park headquarters.
"National parks belong to all Americans and offer something for everyone - so visit the park, wander a trail, take in the scenery, or take a boat ride. Children especially enjoy the popular Junior Ranger program where they earn a badge by taking part in kid-friendly activities," said Lake Mead National Recreation Area Superintendent William Dickinson.
Junior Ranger badges and patches are available at the temporary visitor center.
The National Park Service was established on Aug. 25, 1916.
