Re-Opening of Fort Frederica's Visitor Center September 28th

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 25, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Superintendent Mary Beth Wester is pleased to announce the Grand Re-Opening of Fort Frederica's Visitor Center and Theatre complex. The opening will take place on September 28th, 2012.

Since this past February, the extensive renovation included several projects. The Visitor Center's entrance and bookstore area has been completely refurbished with generous funding from the Fort Frederica Association. The bookstore has a colonial-style theme used in its new furnishings.

Fort Frederica's theatre has also been treated to a complete "make over", including new carpeting, seating, wall finish and a new energy efficient heating and air conditioning system. The museum area also received new carpeting and an upgrade of existing exhibits including the "colorization" of formally black and white figures and background pieces by the H2O Creative Group.

Added to the existing display are artifacts that have not been seen by the public in 65 years, coupled with new digital displays. This new display highlights the different ethnic groups that contributed to Fort Frederica's history. The theatre and museum projects were paid for with visitor fees.
