Man Who Collapsed and Died on Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon National Park is Identified

Grand Canyon, Ariz. - The man who collapsed and died on the Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon yesterday has been identified as 72 year-old David Roberts of Cleveland, Tennessee.

The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 10:45 a.m. Park rangers responded after receiving a 911 call of a man unconscious on the Bright Angel Trail. They located the man approximately two and a half miles below the rim and immediately began CPR. Their life-saving efforts proved unsuccessful and the man was declared deceased on scene.

His body was flown to the South Rim Helibase where it was transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner. A cause of death has not yet been determined.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
