Callville Bay clean-up Nov 3
Volunteers are needed Nov. 3 to help the National Park Service and Callville Bay Resort pick up litter around the Callville Bay marina, shoreline and desert at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Individuals and groups are welcome to participate. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the event is 9 a.m. to noon. A barbecue lunch will be provided for all participants. Hike Liberty Bell Arch Nov 3
Take a moderate six-mile guided hike through Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Liberty Bell Arch Nov. 3. Traverse a narrow wash through ancient riverbeds past the remains of a WWII-era mine. View a natural arch created by wind and water on the way to Black Canyon Overlook. Call 702-293-8990 to register or for more information. Reservations are required. Dogs are not permitted.
Hike the Bowl of Fire Nov 3
Take a moderate to strenuous four-mile guided hike through Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Bowl of Fire Nov. 3. Observe the vivid rock colors while wandering among a variety of Aztec sandstone formations that are scattered through the Bowl of Fire. Call 702-293-8990 to register or for more information. Reservations are required. Dogs are not permitted.
Marathon/half marathon Nov 3
Nearly 2,000 runners will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area along Lakeshore Drive from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 3. The "Really Big Free Marathon Las Vegas" will start and finish at Boulder Beach. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays along Lakeshore Drive and additional traffic at Boulder Beach. Lake Mohave ramps closed through Nov 7
Developed and primitive ramps at Willow Beach, Cottonwood Cove, Katherine Landing, Princess Cove, Arizona Telephone Cove and Nevada Telephone Cove are temporarily closed to trailered boats until Nov. 7 as part of a Bureau of Reclamation conservation effort. The marinas, fuel stations, stores, motels, campsites and picnic areas will remain open, and boaters who have their vessels slipped or moored will still be allowed access to the lake. Rafts, kayaks and canoes are still allowed to launch; however, some tour companies have altered their schedules.
