The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 3, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Looking for an unforgettable experience? Join Lorrie Schumacher and her feathered friends from Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology at the Backyard Ranger program Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at Fort Stanwix National Monument. You will become a Junior Ornithologist and:

ο Explore early birds, not getting the worm, but getting feathers and taking flight.

ο Learn about food webs. Become a citizen scientist and dissect owl pellets.

ο Celebrate the holidays by making a gift to wildlife, an eco-friendly wildlife feeder for your backyard.

The Backyard Rangers at Fort Stanwix National Monument create connections between youth and parks through diverse park programs and inspires kids to get outside and experience their America. The Backyard Rangers meet on the third Saturday of each month. The next Backyard Rangers will be held Jan. 19, 2013, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am and from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the Fort Stanwix National Monument's Willett Center. For more information about Backyard Rangers, please call Fort Stanwix National Monument at 315-338-7730 and speak with one of the rangers. All programs are fee free and no reservations are necessary.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted.
