Off-Trail Guided Hikes in February at Petrified Forest National Park

Petrified Forest, AZ-A series of off-trail guided hikes will be offered Sundays in January, February, and March to help visitors discover why Petrified Forest is so special. The schedule for January and February is below, with future press release for March coming soon. March is Archeology Month and the park will offer hikes every Wednesday and some Sundays.

The Dying Grounds

Each hike will last about three hours and is about 3 mi (4.8 km) round trip. Each hike showcases the parks resources rarely seen by the public including petroglyphs and fossil wood and animals in their natural state. Be ready to learn in the great outdoor classroom of Petrified Forest!

These hikes are not accessible and are over uneven terrain. Exposure to elements may include mud, ice, and cold weather, wear appropriate layered clothing and footwear, bring food and water.

The hike is free, with no prior signup required. The normal entry fee into the park applies. Hike locations are subject to change based on conditions and weather.
