SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING SWIMMER
BOULDERCITY, Nev. - The National Park Service is searching for a 23-year-old North Las Vegas man who was last seen in the water about a mile north of Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mohave Aug. 4.
At 3:35 p.m. Aug. 4, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Interagency Communication Center received a call from the Nevada Department of Wildlife reporting that a man went out into the water and did not surface.
Witnesses said he and two others jumped off a boat to go swimming when the boat drifted away. Passengers on board were able to rescue two swimmers, but the third was not found. The missing man was not wearing a lifejacket.
Nearly 10 people from the National Park Service and Nevada Department of Wildlife began an immediate search from the point where he was last seen. Efforts were suspended around 8:30 p.m. when it became dark.
Search efforts resumed around 8:30 a.m. Aug. 5. About 15 people from the National Park Service, NDOW and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue are searching the area using side scan sonar and divers. The area where the man was last seen is approximately 50-60 feet deep.
The National Park Service advises wearing a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device at all times while in the water regardless of the water depth.
