National Park Service Issues Finding of No Significant Impact for Wabash Avenue Porter Access Site Environmental Assessment

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 16, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

The National Park Service (NPS) has issued the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the “Wabash Avenue/Porter Access Site for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore". The FONSI document can be found online at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/indu.

The selected alternative includes coordination with the Town of Porter to improve the sidewalk along Wabash Avenue for visitor safety and to improve accessibility. The national lakeshore will correct problems associated with the foot-wash station, and restore the dune north of the town parking lot. Based on input from the public additional parking, a pavilion with picnic tables and a new traffic circulation pattern were not included in the preferred alternative.
