HOMESTEAD, Florida: Everglades National Park is proud to present, "Finding Connections" by Andrea Huffman at the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center Gallery during the month of February. An artist’s reception will be heldSaturday, Feb. 15, 2014, beginning at 12:00 noon. Admission is free.
Transplanted to south Florida from New York City almost 40 years ago, Andrea has sought to find a vibrant, personal connection with her adopted home in the tropics. Florida’s natural environment inspired artwork that she hopes will offer the viewer a glimpse of the unique, breathtaking beauty of the Everglades.
Andrea is intrigued with the small nuances in nature, the interdependence within every aspect of the natural world and its relationship to humanity. She creates works of art on fabric to connect viewers to her personal experiences and observations of Florida’s unique environment. Fiber offers tactile and dimensional qualities unlike other media, while essentially maintaining a two-dimensional surface. Her work draws upon both fine art and craft traditions, as well as contemporary innovations. She integrates various media, including drawing, painting, printmaking and digital imagery, with machine and hand stitching to embellish each image. Through this process Andrea seeks to actively engage each viewer in a visual dialogue about our connectedness to the natural world and the desire to preserve its beauty.
