The Great Backyard Bird Count is a great way for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with nature and make a difference for birds. Counting birds is a fun, free, family friendly way to discover and help the birds in your community.
This is the third year the event has been held at the monument. Everyone will meet at the Yurt (visitor center area) at 9AM to receive instructions for the count and refreshments. The count will last from approximately 9:15AM until Noon. Participants can count as long as they wish, anywhere from 15 minutes (minimum allowed) up to3 hours. Materials for counting will be provided and instructions will be given on how to enter your count with birding experts leading the way. A drawing for "birding items" will be held at 11:15AM. More information on this International Event can be found by going on line at http://birds.audubon.org/great-backyard-bird-count. Dress warmly with clothing appropriate for hiking in wintertime Colorado.
