Finding Moccasin Bend's Brown's Ferry Federal Road Hike

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Feb. 18, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to participate in a free ranger-guided hike along Moccasin Bend's Brown's Ferry Federal Road on Saturday, March 1, 2014. The mile and a half, two-hour program will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Brown's Ferry Federal Road Trailhead on Moccasin Bend Road. To find the trailhead, follow the "Special Event" signs beginning on Manufacturers Road.

Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surface collections, and Shovel Tests - some of these terms may be familiar to you, while others may not be as familiar. Join Park Historian Jim Ogden as he leads a hike along the historic road trace leading to Brown's Ferry, explaining how both old-fashioned and new-fangled techniques can assist in the recovery of a largely lost, yet highly significant piece of our region's history.

Comfortable, supportive, wet-weather footwear, clothing appropriate for the weather and water are recommended for this program.
