Women's Rights National Historical Park is proud to announce the release of its first ever administrative history. "All Men and Women are Created Equal": An Administrative History of Women's Rights National Historical Parkwas researched and written by Dr. Rebecca Conard, Professor of History and Director of the Public History Program at Middle Tennessee State University.
Dr. Conard concluded that significant trends in historic preservation, interpretation and partnerships within the National Park Service affected park decisions and actions. She also found that legislation creating the park provided limits and opportunities that shaped decision-makers development of sites in Seneca Falls and Waterloo, N.Y. related to the nation's first women's rights convention in 1848.
Dr. Conard used interviews, park records and federal agency archives to document the beginnings and growth of the national park in Seneca Falls and Waterloo, N.Y. between 1976 and 2011. The 450 page book includes maps, photographs, charts and appendices.
Administrative histories explain the creation and development of national parks, their efforts to fulfill their legislative purpose, and their involvement in local, state, and federal initiatives to preserve historic or natural treasures belonging to the American public. Dr. Conard is the author of several books and articles about the practice of history. She also wrote a previous administrative history for the National Park Service,Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Legislative History, 1920-1996.
