National parks offer free entrance during National Park Week’s opening weekend April 19-20
Savannah, GA - Looking for something fun and fantastic to do with family and friends? Head out to America's national parks where millions of stars light up the dark night sky, deer and antelope (and a few other critters!) play on the wide open range, and history is an unbelievable experience, not a boring class lecture. The National Park Service is proud to once again join with the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, to present National Park Week, a presidentially proclaimed celebration of our national heritage.
This year, from April 19-27, YOU are invited to celebrate all that America’s more than 400 national parks have to offer with the theme “National Park Week: Go Wild!" From diverse wildlife and iconic landscapes to vibrant culture and rich history, our National Park System has something for everyone. On opening weekend, Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20, every national park will give you free admission!
Fort Pulaski National Monument - Savannah’s National Park - will mark the annual celebration with the opening of a special exhibit by local photographer, Shannon Christopher. Entitled “The Muse", Christopher’s show presents 15 mounted and framed pieces and a 3’ x 5’ composite of 32 images, all taken with an iPhone. All of the photographs were taken at Fort Pulaski and on Cockspur Island and feature flora and fauna found throughout the park. There will be an opening reception for the exhibit on Friday, April 18 at 6 PM in the park Visitor Center. The reception is free and open to the public.
