Fort Sumter National Monument will unveil a new temporary exhibit at the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center at Liberty Square on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Entitled Legacy:Fort Sumter, Charleston, and Alicia Rhett, the exhibit focuses on late local artist and actress Alicia Rhett, her family history in Charleston, and their ties to Fort Sumter.
The exhibit will feature items from the collections of Fort Sumter, the Charleston Museum, the Dock Street Theatre, and the South Carolina Historical Society. It is expected to be on display through mid-July.
The Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center at Liberty Square is located at 340 Concord Street in Charleston, next to the South Carolina Aquarium. Although the visitor center is free there is a fee to take the concession-operated ferry to Fort Sumter. The visitor center is open daily from 8:30-5:00 except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days. For more information, call (843) 883-3123.
