An area of high pressure combined with offshore winds will lead to very warm to hot temperatures throughout the region. In addition, a moderate sized, long period southwest swell will enter the region on Friday, October 3 and remain through tonight. This swell will result in an increased threat of rip currents and sneaker waves along most of the beaches at Point Reyes National Seashore.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until 9 pm this evening and a beach hazards statement for rip currents and sneaker waves through this evening.
Hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create conditions in which heat illnesses are possible. One should light, wear loose fitting clothes and be sure to drink plenty of water if spending time outside.
A beach hazard statement means that potentially dangerous conditions may exist on park beaches, especially along south facing beaches like Limantour and Drakes Beaches. These hazards may include large shore break, strong rip currents, strong longshore currents, and possible sneaker waves. All of these conditions could be life threatening.
Be sure to always have your eyes on the ocean.
