Update: The Wednesday, January 21st meeting location to discuss the Haleakala NP Foundation Document has been changed to the Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani. The meeting time is still 5-6:30pm.
The Wednesday, Feb. 18, will be from 5 to 6:30 pm in Hana. The location for the Hana meeting will be announced in a future press release.

Haleakalā NP is developing a "Foundation Document" to describe a shared understanding of what is most important about the park. Although the Foundation Document is not a decision-making document and does not include proposed actions or management strategies, it defines Haleakalā National Park's core mission and significance, most important resources and values, and the interpretive themes that tell the park's important stories. The public is invited to review this draft document and provide feedback until Feb. 20, 2015.
The draft Foundation Document and a comment card can be viewed at the park's website https://www.nps.gov/hale/parkmgmt/index.htm. Two community meetings will be held to describe the draft and gather public feedback. The first will be on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Kula Community Center from 5 to 6:30 pm. The next will be on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 6:30 pm at Helene Hall in Hana.
Comments can be submitted online by Feb. 20, 2015, by email (to HALE_Superintendent@nps.gov with the subject line "HALE Foundation Document"), or by regular mail (Attention: Foundation Document, Haleakalā NP, P.O. Box 369, Makawao, HI, 96768).
Comments will not be accepted by FAX or in any manner other than the methods specified above. Bulk comments in any format (hardcopy or electronic) submitted on behalf of others will not be accepted. Before including a personal address, phone number, email address, or other personal identifying information in written comments, anyone providing written comment should be aware their entire comment - including their personal identifying information - maybe made publicly available at anytime. While anyone wishing to comment may ask the National Park Service in their comment to withhold their personal identifying information from public review, the National Park Service cannot guarantee it will be able to do so.
