Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park Public Notice of Flight Operations

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 7, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Hawaii National Park, Hawai'i -Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park announces the following upcoming flight plans for the remainder of April thru May 7, 2015:

* ″April 8, 10, 20, and 24, between 8 a.m. and noon, to transport fencing material from near the top of Mauna Loa Road to approximately 9,000 ft. elevation.

* ″April 14 and 23, between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., for ungulate surveys and control work in Kahuku between 3,000 and 7,000 ft. elevation.

* ″April 27, and May 7, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m, flying camp supplies and equipment from 'Āinahou to 'Āpua Point, Keauhou, and Halapē campsites for guinea grass control and monitoring during the hawksbill turtle nesting season.

The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.

Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
