NPS Is One Step Closer to Acquiring 550-acre Mosier’s Knob Property

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 20, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is one step closer to acquiring 550 acres in Smithfield Township, PA, known as Mosier's Knob, according to Superintendent John J. Donahue."The eventual transfer of this property to the National Park Service (NPS) will protect important resources and scenic views in a location that was once slated for high-density development," he explained. The property was purchased from the developer Wyndham Worldwide by The Trust for Public Land (TPL) for $4.33 million using funds from a variety of sources.

The parcel was recently transferred from TPL to The Conservation Fund (TCF). TCF will transfer ownership of the property to the NPS once all administrative requirements have been completed. "Thanks to the diligent efforts and generous contributions from the Doris Duke Foundation, William Penn Foundation, Open Space Institute, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Conservation Fund, The Trust for Public Land, Smithfield Township, Monroe County, the Shawnee Preservation Society, and others, we have received grants in excess of $2.4 million to bring this project to this stage. This was truly a collaborative process that began at the grassroots level in the community and eventually won not only community support, but financial and administrative support from local, county, state, federal, private, and not-for-profit agencies and organizations who all worked together to achieve a common goal," Donahue added.
