Come to Fort Stanwix National Monument over Memorial Day Weekend and you will see a British flag
flying over the fort. The park will be hosting its annual French & Indian War encampment from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, May 23 and 9 am to 3 pm on Sunday, May 24. This event and all programs are free
of charge. The theme of this year's program is "World at War" and a full range of activities including weapons demonstrations, fortification walks, and everyday laundry chores, will allow you to interact
with reenactors portraying the British and Colonial troops that built and garrisoned Fort Stanwix.
Explore inside the fort and meet some of the French who raided around the Mohawk Valley as well.
Fort Stanwix was built by the British in 1758 to protect the area from French invasion and to
support British attacks into French-controlled Canada during the French & Indian War.This war pitted England and the 13 Colonies against the French to decide who would be the controlling power in North America, Europe, and other lands, effectively plunging the world into one of its first world wars.
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm.Admission to the park is free.For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315) 338-7730.
