Timpanogos Cave closing for winter 2015

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 30, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Timpanogos Cave National Monument will offer its last cave tours of the year on Sunday, Oct. 11, after which the caves, cave trail, and visitor center will be closed for the winter. The Monument's Swinging Bridge picnic area will remain open.

"Fall is a beautiful time of year in American Fork Canyon as visitors enjoy changing leaves, cooler temperatures, and smaller groups on the remaining cave tours" said Superintendent Jim Ireland.

Tickets for remaining cave tours are available on-line at www.recreation.gov.

Immediately after the caves close, staff and volunteers will undertake an annual "restoration camp" carefully cleaning formations inside the cave, while outside maintenance workers will work on asphalt sealing and crack repair on 1.5 mile long cave access trail, work that cannot be completed while it is open to daily use.

Depending on the weather, the park plans to reopen all facilities in early May of 2016.
