Harkers Island, NC - Cape Lookout National Seashore continues to move forwards with its emergency weather evacuation plan. Due to public safety and the welfare of park visitors and staff, the National Seashore is currently closed to all visitors until further notice.
The National Weather Service is predicting that the effects of Hurricane Joaquin will impact the Outer Banks of North Carolina through the weekend with storm conditions possibly continuing through Monday, October 5, 2015.
In anticipation of this weather event, the National Park Service has begun closing facilities effective 8 AM today, Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015.
* Shackleford Banks is closed effective today, Oct. 1, 2015 to overnight guests and day use visitors.
* South Core Banks, including the Great Island cabin camp, is closed effective today, Oct. 1, 2015 to overnight guests and day use visitors.
* North Core Banks, including the Long Point cabin camp.Overnight guests and day use visitors are currently being evacuated and will close by 4pm tomorrow, Oct. 2, 2015.
* All cabin camp reservations have been cancelled through Monday, October 5, 2015.
