The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 5, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

The National Park Service Southeast Utah Group is now accepting applications for the 2016 Community Artist in the Parks (CAIP) Program. The selected artist will help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.

Created in 2009, the CAIP program highlights the connection between a local artist and the surrounding landscape, particularly Arches and Canyonlands national parks and Hovenweep and Natural Bridges national monuments.

The Community Artist creates work within the participating National Park Service units during a minimum of twenty four hours per month, April through October, and shares his/her inspiration and creative process with visitors from around the world. The artist's work may be sold in the Arches and Canyonlands national park bookstores.

Artists must be residents of Grand or San Juan counties in Utah.

Program details, short videos by former Community Artists, and more application information are available online. Applications must be received by Nov. 13, 2015.

Applications and questions may be directed to Sharon Brussell at 435-719-2142 or via email.

Chad Niehaus, the Community Artist in the Parks Liaison, may also be contacted for program information at 435-259-9314 or via email.
