MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY AT LAKE MEAD NRA, NOV 14
BOULDER CITY, Nevada - In celebration of Veterans Day, The Lake Mead Institute, Forever Resorts and Lake Mead Cruises are hosting a military appreciation day Nov. 14. Military members, veterans and their families are invited to the park to participate in a variety of free and heavily discounted activities.
Entrance to all national parks will be free for all visitors on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Black Canyon National Water Trail Raft Trip
Forever Resorts is hosting a military appreciation raft trip 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14. Raft along the Colorado River below the Hoover Dam. Enjoy the history of the dam, desert wildlife and the region’s only national water trail aboard a motor-assisted inflatable raft. Lunch is provided. Special event price is $15 per person (regular price is $92). Space is limited. Book by calling 1-800-455-3490. Each military member may bring up to three guests. Hike the Historic Railroad Trail
Join a ranger on a free hike along the Historic Railroad Trail at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 14. Hike through historic railroad tunnels and observe panoramic views of Lake Mead along this national recreation trail. Learn about the history of the Hoover Dam, how the railroad helped support the building of the dam and what its significance is today. The flat, gravel trail can accommodate strollers. Military Appreciation Cruise
Cruise to the Hoover Dam and back on a Mississippi-style paddle wheeler at noon or 2 p.m. Nov. 14. Lake Mead Cruises is offering a complimentary ticket to military members and veterans with a military ID or DD214. Family members will receive a 25 percent discount ($19.50) Children 2-11 are $13. Visitor Center Junior Ranger activity
Children can earn their Junior Ranger badge at the Lake Mead Visitor Center 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14. Lake Mead park rangers will provide hands-on educational activities about plants and animals of the desert along with a postcard art activity. To earn a badge, kids will take an oath to protect parks, continue to learn about parks and share their ranger story with friends and family. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
Single Airman Hike to Hot Spring
Single airmen are invited to participate in a free challenging ranger-led hike to Lake Mead’s Arizona Hot Spring 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 14. After hiking about three miles, participants will have the opportunity to soak in the 110-degree spring or the Colorado River. Participants will be transported by boat to Willow Beach where they can grab lunch. Then, hikers will be shuttled back to their cars. The hike is limited to 20 participants. Registration is required. Free America the Beautiful Pass
Active duty service members can pick up a free annual pass to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites, including Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Red Rock Canyon at the Lake Mead Visitor Center or any entrance station.
