Beach Hazard Statement Issued for Point Reyes National Seashore for Wednesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 29, 2015

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 28, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

A large storm system extending across the central Pacific will bring large, long period swells to the area today through Thursday. This will translate into large breaking waves from 9 to 12 feet at the beaches within Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

A beach hazard statement for large shore break means that conditions are present to support large waves in shallow waters. People walking along the beach should never turn their back to the ocean. Fisherman should avoid fishing from rocks or jetties. Swimmers should always swim near a lifeguard.

For additional safety tips, visit our website at https://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/beaches.htm#CP_JUMP_79900 and scroll about halfway down the page.

Be sure to always have your eyes on the ocean.
