Fatality at Bright Angel Campground in Grand Canyon National Park

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 10, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Grand Canyon, Ariz. -At approximately 6 am on Sunday, December 6, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a call reporting CPR in progress in Bright Angel Campground near Phantom Ranch. Park rangers and other emergency personnel responded to the scene and continued CPR, however all efforts to resuscitate the hiker were unsuccessful.

The hiker has been identified as 49-year old Janell Mount of North Carolina.

No additional information is available at this time. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
