BOULDER CITY, Nevada -An $11.3 million construction project to improve roads leading to Katherine Landing within Lake Mead National Recreation Area will begin Jan. 11.
Construction includes Davis Dam Road (to Katherine Spur Road), Katherine Spur Road (to launch the ramps) and paved parking lots within the Katherine Landing area.
The entire roadway will be reconstructed from the base to the surface and will be widened to 12-foot lanes with two-foot shoulders. The intersection of Davis Dam Road and Katherine Spur Road will be re-aligned to allow traffic to flow to and from Davis Dam Road to Katherine Spur Road without a stop sign. An additional lane will be added from the entrance station to Cabin Site Road. There will also be some drainage improvements, and parking lots will be reconstructed.
Construction will occur up to seven days a week. The road will remain open during construction, but visitors may experience up to 15-minute delays. The project is scheduled to be completed by May 31.
Funding for the project was provided by Federal Lands Transportation Program. The contractor is SWP Contracting and Paving from Surprise, Arizona.
