BOULDER CITY, Nevada. -The following events are happening at Lake Mead National Recreation Area July 1-31

Boulder City Library Program: Water Safety and You, July 1

Join a ranger from 1-2 p.m. July 1 at the Boulder City Library to learn how to be safe this summer at Lake Mead National Recreation Area while wearing your life jacket. For more information, call 702-293-8990.

Ranger Chat:The Mojave Desert:A Magical Land, July 2

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 2 to learn about this vibrant desert home. From the desert bighorn sheep found in the rugged mountains to the smallest beavertail cactus, life is abundant and thriving in what many think is a barren landscape. Boulder City 4th of July Parade, July 4

Join rangers from Lake Mead National Recreation Area July 4 as they team up to parade through Boulder City, Nevada, during the annual Damboree Celebration. Come out to view law enforcement vehicles and vessels. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area headquarters will also be open during the parade at 601 Nevada Way in Boulder City.

Ham Radio Program, July 5

The Amateur Radio Relay League is hosting a National Parks on the Air event at the Lake Mead Visitor Center July 5 to help celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the National Park Service. Join ham operator Bob Murray from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as he shares his knowledge of ham radio use and demonstrates how ham operators "talk" while traveling across the United States, using this method of communication. Laughlin Library Program: Find Your Park, July 11

Join a ranger at the Laughlin Library from 2- 3 p.m. July 11. Park rangers from Lake Mohave will have a variety of Junior Ranger activities for children. Those who participate will receive a special Centennial Junior Ranger badge and will be sworn in as official junior rangers. For more information, call 702-280-4445.

Ranger Hike: Birding for Fun, July 17

Join rangers July 17 for an early morning hike along the shoreline where the wetlands meet the lake. Learn why birds migrate, what their nesting habits are, and why they stop at Lake Mead during their worldwide journey. Don't forget to bring binoculars. Join a natural sounds ranger at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 18 to learn how human-caused sound can impact nature's soundscape in the recreation area. Natural quiet isn't always quiet and the subtle sounds of wildlife in the park contribute to the richness of the desert landscape. Laughlin Library Program: Night Sky Explorers: Starry Skies and Night Animals, July 19

Join a ranger at the Laughlin Library from 4:30-5:30 p.m. July 19 to learn about the upcoming Perseid Meteor Shower in August, common constellations in the summer sky and animals that can be seen at night. Ranger Hike: Animals of the Night, July 22

The Mojave Desert comes alive at night. Join a ranger July 22 for a night hike along the Bluffs Trail at Las Vegas Bay. Ranger Chat: What does a Park Ranger do?, July 31

Join a ranger at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 31 to celebrate the work rangers do to protect the world's natural and cultural treasures. Learn what rangers do daily to keep the recreation area operating. Youth can even become Lake Mead Junior Rangers by completing booklets about the park. They can earn junior ranger badges for underwater explorer, paleontology, historic preservation and the night sky. Special National Park Service Centennial badges are also available to celebrate the service's 100th anniversary.
