A Celebration of the National Park Service’s 100th Birthday!

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 5, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

In celebration of the National Park Service turning 100 years old, Obed Wild and Scenic River will be hosting a combined birthday party and an art-in-the-park reception on Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Obed Visitor Center, located at 208 North Maiden Street in downtown Wartburg. The festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. (ET).

The National Park Service has been celebrating its impending centennial for over a year, but August 25 marks the actual day when the National Park Service can claim 100 years of protecting our nation’s most treasured places. The festivities will include light refreshments, a birthday cake and live music by the Shelter Road Band.

The event will also include a display of photographs from the fifth annual Obed photography contest. During the evening, the contest’s winning entries will be revealed for five categories: fauna and flora, landscapes, action-adventure, artistic and youth. The winning entries have been judged on technical excellence, originality, creativity, visual impact, and artistic merit.
